Nystatin Oral suspension 30 ml
Composition:
Nystatin – 100,000 IU.
Description:
Antifungal suspension for treatment and prevention of candidal infections of the oral cavity, esophagus, and intestinal tract. Contains nystatin — an antimycotic active against Candida species. Suitable for adults, children, and newborns (for prophylaxis).
Indications:
- Oral candidiasis (thrush) and esophageal candidiasis.
- Intestinal candidiasis.
- Prophylaxis in newborns born to mothers with vaginal candidosis.
- Candidal denture-related sores.
Dosage and Administration:
Adults:
1 ml (100,000 IU) dropped into the mouth four times daily.
Retain in the mouth as long as possible before swallowing.
Children (oral or intestinal candidiasis):
1 ml (100,000 IU) four times daily.
Newborns (prophylaxis):
1 ml (100,000 IU) once daily.
Important:
Continue treatment for at least 48 hours after symptoms disappear.
If no improvement after 14 days, reevaluate therapy.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to nystatin or excipients.
Hereditary disorders: fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, sucrase-isomaltase deficiency.
Precautions:
Contains parabens (methylparaben, propylparaben) — may cause allergic reactions.
Contains sulfites (sodium metabisulfite) — risk of bronchospasm in asthmatics.
Contains sucrose — consider in diabetes and fructose intolerance.
Not for systemic mycoses.
Adverse Effects:
Rarely: Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, skin rash (including urticaria).
Very rarely: Stevens-Johnson syndrome, angioedema.
Discontinue if irritation or allergy occurs.
Pregnancy and Lactation:
Pregnancy: Use only if benefits outweigh risks (GI absorption negligible).
Lactation: Unknown if excreted in breast milk, but caution advised.
Storage:
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
