Composition:
Amoxicillin (as trihydrate) 500 mg
Description:
E-MOX is a penicillin-group antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of various localizations in adults and children.
Indications for Use:
E-MOX is used for the treatment of the following infections:
-Acute otitis media
-Acute bacterial sinusitis
-Acute streptococcal tonsillitis and pharyngitis
-Exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
-Community-acquired pneumonia
-Acute cystitis
-Asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnant women
-Acute pyelonephritis
-Typhoid and paratyphoid fever
-Dental abscess with spreading infection
-Infections of prosthetic joints
-Eradication of Helicobacter pylori
-Lyme disease
-Endocarditis prophylaxis
Dosage and Administration:
The dosage of E-MOX depends on the type and severity of the infection, patient’s age, weight, and renal function.
Typical Dosages:
-Acute bacterial sinusitis: 250–500 mg every 8 hours or 750 mg – 1 g every 12 hours.
-Acute cystitis: 3 g twice daily for 1 day.
-Acute otitis media: 500 mg every 8 hours.
-Exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: 750 mg – 1 g every 8 hours for 10 days.
-Community-acquired pneumonia: 500 mg – 1 g every 8 hours.
-Lyme disease: 500 mg – 2 g every 8 hours, duration 10–30 days.
-Eradication of Helicobacter pylori: 750 mg – 1 g twice daily in combination with a proton pump inhibitor and another antibiotic (e.g., clarithromycin, metronidazole) for 7 days.
Dose adjustment is required in renal impairment. Detailed information is provided in the package insert.
Contraindications:
-Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, penicillins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics
-History of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, angioedema)
Precautions:
-Severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, DRESS syndrome) may occur.
-High risk of allergic reactions in patients with penicillin hypersensitivity.
-Seizures may occur in renal failure, high doses, or predisposed patients (epilepsy, meningitis).
-Prolonged use may lead to the growth of resistant microorganisms and development of superinfections.
-Use may cause antibiotic-associated diarrhea, including pseudomembranous colitis.
Pregnancy and Lactation:
Pregnancy: Use only if the benefits outweigh the potential risks.
Lactation: Amoxicillin is excreted in breast milk and may cause diarrhea and fungal infections in the infant.
Side Effects:
Most common:
Diarrhea, nausea, skin rash.
Rare and very rare:
Leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia.
Anaphylactic reactions, hypersensitivity.
Dizziness, hyperkinesia, seizures.
Hepatitis, elevated liver enzymes.
Pseudomembranous colitis, black hairy tongue.
Interstitial nephritis, crystalluria.
Storage Conditions:
Store in a dry place at temperatures not exceeding 25°C.
