E-MOXCLAV Amoxicillin 600 mg / 5 ml, Clavulanic Acid 42.9 mg / 5 ml Powder for Oral Suspension 75 ml Composition: Amoxicillin 600 mg / 5 ml, Clavulanic Acid 42.9 mg / 5 ml Description E-MOXCLAV® is a combination antibiotic containing two active ingredients: amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin is a penicillin-class antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity, effective against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Clavulanic acid enhances the effectiveness of amoxicillin by inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes, which can break down penicillins and reduce their effectiveness. This product is used to treat various bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It is available as an oral suspension, making it particularly convenient for children and those who have difficulty swallowing tablets. Properties -Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is effective against most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. -Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor, a substance that blocks the action of enzymes that could break down penicillins. In combination with amoxicillin, clavulanic acid broadens the spectrum of action, including against microorganisms that may otherwise be resistant to penicillin-class antibiotics. Indications for Use E-MOXCLAV® is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to the drug, including: -Acute otitis media — middle ear infections, especially in young children, including those with a predisposition to ear infections. -Respiratory tract infections — such as acute sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia. -Urinary tract infections — including cystitis, pyelonephritis. -Skin and soft tissue infections — such as abscesses, furuncles, infected wounds. -Biliary tract infections and other bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. Dosage and Administration Pediatric patients (aged 3 months and older): The recommended dose for children over 3 months is 90 mg of amoxicillin per kilogram of body weight per day, divided into two doses (every 12 hours). The duration of treatment is usually 7-10 days, depending on the severity and type of infection. Children aged 3 months to 2 years: The recommended dose for younger children (weighing less than 20 kg) is 40 mg of amoxicillin per kg of body weight per day, divided into two doses. Children over 2 years of age: The dose for children over 2 years may be increased depending on the severity of the infection, but should not exceed 90 mg of amoxicillin per kg of body weight per day. Preparation and Administration of the Suspension: Unscrew the cap and add distilled water to the indicated mark on the bottle. Shake the bottle until a homogeneous suspension is formed. After this, the suspension is ready for use. Shake the bottle again before each use. Use the included measuring spoon for accurate dosing. The suspension should be taken with food to minimize the risk of stomach irritation. Contraindications This product should not be used in patients with: -Allergy to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, or other beta-lactam antibiotics (such as penicillins or cephalosporins). -Severe liver dysfunction, including cholestatic jaundice or liver failure associated with amoxicillin/clavulanate use. -Jaundice — in patients with a history of jaundice caused by the medication. Precautions -Liver dysfunction: Use with caution in patients with liver impairment. Regular monitoring of liver function may be necessary. -Allergic reactions: If any allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, or anaphylaxis (including angioedema) occur, discontinue the drug and seek immediate medical attention. -Antibiotic-associated diarrhea: Diarrhea associated with Clostridium difficile infection may develop, especially in patients undergoing prolonged therapy. If diarrhea occurs, the drug should be discontinued, and treatment should be adjusted accordingly. -Mononucleosis: Patients with mononucleosis may experience skin rashes after taking amoxicillin. In such cases, the drug should be discontinued. Side Effects Side effects may include: -Gastrointestinal effects: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, candidiasis, gastritis. -Allergic reactions: skin rashes, itching, hives, angioedema, anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome. -Hepatic effects: elevated liver enzymes, cholestatic jaundice, hepatitis. -Renal effects: crystalluria, interstitial nephritis. -Neurological effects: headache, dizziness, insomnia, irritability, anxiety, seizures (especially with high doses). Pregnancy and Lactation Pregnancy: The use of this product during pregnancy should only occur if the potential benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the fetus. It is best to avoid its use in the first trimester without specific indications. Lactation: The drug is excreted in breast milk. If its use during lactation is necessary, consult a healthcare provider to assess risks to the infant. Discontinuation of breastfeeding may be required.
