Composition:
Each tablet contains:
• Secnidazole — 500 mg
Pharmacological properties:
Secnidazole belongs to the group of 5-nitroimidazoles. It has activity against:
• Entamoeba histolytica (dysentery amoeba)
• Giardia lamblia (lamblia)
• Trichomonas vaginalis (Trichomonas)
Mechanism of action:
Disrupts the DNA of parasites, inhibiting the synthesis of nucleic acids → death of microorganisms.
Indications for use:
• Liver amebiasis;
• Acute intestinal amebiasis;
• Asymptomatic intestinal amebiasis;
• Bacterial vaginosis;
• Vaginal trichomoniasis;
• Lambliasis.
Method of administration and dosage:
In adults:
Urethritis and vaginitis caused by Trichomonas vaginalis and bacterial vaginosis: 2 g once at the beginning of a meal. Sexual partners should also receive the same dose.
Acute symptomatic amoebic dysentery (histolytic type): 2 g once at the beginning of a meal.
Asymptomatic amoebic dysentery (microcystic and cystic forms): 2 g per day for 3 days, taken at the beginning of a meal.
Amebic liver disease: 1.5 g/day, taken once or in divided doses at the beginning of a meal for 5 days. In case of amoebic liver abscess, combine Secnidazole with treatment for drainage of pus.
In children (if applicable)
Intestinal amoebic dysentery:
Acute symptomatic amoebic dysentery (histolytic type): a single dose of approximately 30 mg/kg/day, taken once and used for one day only.
Amebic liver abscess: 30 mg/kg/day, taken once or in divided doses at the beginning of meals for 5 days. In the abscess phase, combine Secnidazole with pus drainage treatment.
Giardiasis: a dose of 30 mg/kg/day taken once and used for one day only.
