Indications:
Zovirax is used to treat viral infections caused by herpes simplex virus and varicella zoster virus, including:
Oral or genital herpes
Chickenpox
Shingles
Preventing recurrence in immunocompromised patients
Mechanism of Action:
Acyclovir is an antiviral drug that works by inhibiting viral DNA replication within the infected cell, limiting the spread of infection and reducing the severity and duration of symptoms.
Dosage and Administration:
The dosage depends on the type of infection, the patient's age, and weight.
The dose is taken orally using the supplied measuring device.
Shake the bottle well before each use.
Can be taken with or without food.
Example of a common dosage:
Children: Depending on body weight and the doctor's recommendation.
Adults: Typically 5 ml (400 mg) 3 to 5 times daily for 5 to 10 days.
Precautions:
The dosage should be adjusted in patients with kidney disease.
