Indications:
Lovir is used to treat viral infections caused by herpes viruses, including:
Genital herpes
Oral herpes simplex
Chickenpox
Shingles
Preventing recurrence of herpes infection in immunocompromised patients
Mechanism of Action:
Acyclovir acts as an antiviral by inhibiting the viral polymerase enzyme, preventing viral DNA replication within infected cells and halting the spread of infection.
Dosage and Administration:
The dose varies depending on the type of infection, and is usually:
400 mg two or three times daily for treatment
Or 400 mg twice daily for prevention
The tablets should be taken with a sufficient amount of water.
The medication can be taken with or without food.
The duration prescribed by your doctor should be adhered to and treatment should not be discontinued prematurely.
Precautions:
The dose should be adjusted in cases of renal impairment.
Do not use if you are allergic to acyclovir or its derivatives.
Use with caution in the elderly and those with kidney disease.
