Acyclostad topical cream contains 5% acyclovir, an antiviral used to treat skin infections caused by the herpes simplex virus, such as cold sores (Herpes labialis). The cream works by stopping the growth of the virus, reducing the severity of symptoms, and speeding up healing. Uses: Treats cold sores around the mouth. Reduces the duration and pain of viral skin infections. Can be used in the early stages of infection for best effect. Directions: Apply the cream directly to the affected area five times daily, approximately every four hours (except at bedtime). Wash your hands before and after application. Use for five days. Treatment can be extended to up to 10 days if the sores have not completely healed. Precautions: For external use only. Do not apply the cream inside the mouth, eyes, or vagina. It is best to start treatment as soon as possible after the first symptoms, such as itching or tingling, appear. Do not use on children without medical advice. Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding except under the supervision of a physician. Possible side effects: Mild burning or tingling at the site of application. Mild dryness or peeling of the skin. In rare cases: skin rash or severe irritation. Notes: Store the cream at room temperature away from direct heat. Do not share the cream with others, even if you experience the same symptoms. Do not use after the expiration date printed on the package.
