URICOL Effervescent Granules Composition Each sachet (5 g) contains: Hexamine 500 mg Piperazine citrate 190 mg Khellin 1.83 mg Effervescent base 5 g Properties Urinary Antiseptic, Antispasmodic & For Urinary Lithiasis URICOL is a multifunctional formulation combining three active ingredients, each complementing the other with potent urinary antiseptic, antispasmodic and and antilithic antilithic effects. Hexamine, Hexamine the first ingredient in URICOL, is an antiseptic that prevents and treats urinary tract infections and asymptomatic bacteriuria. In acidic urine, hexamine is hydrolyzed to formaldehyde which exerts potent antimicrobial effect against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. Hexamine is safe for long-term use and no emergence of resistance occurs. Piperazine citrate, the second ingredient in URICOL, adjusts the pH of urine to the appropriate value that helps dissolve uric acid and prevents formation and deposition of urate calculi. Khellin, the third ingredient in URICOL, is a powerful antispasmodic that relieves urinary smooth muscle spasm and hypermotility associated with infection, diagnostic procedures or irritations due to calculi. These properties demonstrate the superior antiseptic effects of URICOL and its high efficacy in relieving and overcoming urinary tract spasm, and preventing formation and deposition of urinary calculi. Formulation of URICOL in single dose (5 g) sachets, keeps the granules in sachets always fresh and protects them against moisture. The sachets also provide easy handling of accurate doses of URICOL and ensure patient compliance. The effervescent base of URICOL ensures pleasant taste and rapid absorption with fast onset of action. Indications: Chronic urinary tract infections, as in pyelitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis and infections accompanying neurogenic bladder. - As a prophylaxis against urinary tract infection in patients with residual urine due to different causes including neurological diseases or prolonged bladder catheterization. - Fast relief of urinary tract spasms and irritations caused by crystalluria and urinary calculi. Overcome of urinary tract discomfort and hypermotility resulting from cystitis, urethritis, urethrocystitis and prostatitis. - Prevention of urinary tract lithiasis. Dosage and mode of administration : The contents of one URICOL sachet is added to half a glass of water and taken during effervescence. Chronic urinary tract infections, spasms of the urinary tract and prevention of urinary tract lithiasis: 1-2 sachets to be taken 3-4 times daily or as directed by the physician. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to any component of URICOL, severe hepatic diseases and renal insufficiency. Precautions: Hexamine-containing preparations should not be given to patients taking sulfonamides to avoid formation of insoluble precipitates in urinary tract. Side effects: URICOL is safe and well tolerated with almost no side effects. However nausea, stomach upset or rash might rarely occur. Pregnancy and lactation: Medications containing hexamine should be taken under medical supervision during pregnancy and lactation. Drug interactions: Concomitant administration of hexamine with sulfonamides results in mutual antagonism. Package: A box containing 6 sachets (5 g each). Storage: Keep out of the reach of children.
