Active Ingredient:
Venlafaxine hydrochloride, in a dosage equivalent to 75 mg of venlafaxine (84.85 mg of venlafaxine hydrochloride).
Description:
Efexor XR is a prolonged-release antidepressant containing the active substance venlafaxine. It belongs to the class of serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). It is used in the treatment of major depressive disorder, as well as anxiety-related conditions such as generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and panic disorder. Efexor XR helps improve mood, reduce anxiety, restore interest in daily activities, and normalize sleep patterns.
Indications:
Major depressive disorder (MDD), Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), Social anxiety disorder (SAD), Panic disorder.
Dosage and Administration:
Adults: The recommended starting dose is 75 mg once daily, preferably at the same time each day and taken with food. If the clinical response is insufficient, the dose may be gradually increased to 150 mg per day. In severe depression, the maximum daily dose may reach 225 mg, strictly under medical supervision. Capsules must be swallowed whole with water; do not crush, chew, or open them.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to venlafaxine. Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), or within 14 days of their discontinuation. Severe hepatic or renal impairment (unless prescribed by a physician).
Precautions:
Discontinuation of therapy must be gradual to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Monitor blood pressure, especially at doses above 150 mg/day. Observe patients closely for worsening depression or suicidal thoughts, particularly at treatment initiation. Use with caution in patients with epilepsy, hepatic or renal dysfunction, glaucoma, or bipolar disorder. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery due to possible drowsiness or impaired concentration. Alcohol consumption is not recommended.
Adverse Effects (common):
Nausea, Insomnia, Headache, Increased sweating, Tachycardia, Decreased libido.
Pregnancy and Lactation:
Venlafaxine should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed, when the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Neonatal withdrawal syndrome may occur if used in the third trimester. Use during lactation is not recommended, as venlafaxine and its metabolites are excreted in breast milk.
Storage Conditions:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C, in a dry place, protected from light and out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
Packaging:
Each pack contains 14 prolonged-release capsules in a blister strip enclosed in a cardboard carton.
