Properties: A broad-spectrum antiparasitic drug used in both human and veterinary medicine. Ivermectin disrupts nerve impulse transmission in parasites, leading to their paralysis and death. The tablets are highly effective against roundworms but do not kill tapeworms or flukes. Ivermectin is also used to treat scabies and pediculosis in individuals with normal immune function. Ivermectin is rapidly absorbed in the human body, reaching maximum blood concentration within 4 hours. It distributes evenly throughout tissues, enters the eyes in limited amounts, and is excreted mainly through the intestines within 28 hours. Despite its broad activity spectrum, the drug has relatively low toxicity when taken at the prescribed dosage.
