Glucophage XR 1000 mg 30 tablets Composition (per tablet): Active ingredient: Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg (in the form of prolonged-release tablets). Pharmacological properties: Metformin reduces blood glucose levels by: • suppressing glucose production in the liver • reducing glucose absorption in the intestine • increasing tissue sensitivity to insulin. Unlike some other drugs, it does not cause hypoglycemia when used as monotherapy. Indications for use: • Type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially in overweight patients • Can be used as an independent agent or in combination with other hypoglycemic drugs (including insulin). Method of administration and dosage: • Glucophage XR 1000 mg is indicated for maintenance therapy in patients receiving 1000 mg or 2000 mg metformin hydrochloride. When switching, the daily dose of Glucophage XR should be equivalent to the current daily dose of metformin hydrochloride. • Glucophage XR 1000 mg should be taken once daily with the evening meal to a maximum recommended dose of 2 tablets per day. If glycemic control is not achieved with Glucophage XR 2000 mg once daily, Glucophage XR 1000 mg twice daily should be considered, with both doses taken with food. If glycemic control is still not achieved, patients can be switched to standard metformin tablets to a maximum dose of 3000 mg per day. • The dose can be adjusted as recommended by the physician. • Swallow the tablets whole, without chewing or breaking them.
