Trade Name: Co-Avazir 0.3%/ 0.1% Tobramycin/Dexamethasone Eye drops 10 ml Composition: Tobramycin 0.3% (3 mg/ml), Dexamethasone 0.1% (1 mg/ml). Inactive ingredients: Benzalkonium chloride Properties: This drug contains two active ingredients. Tobramycin belongs to a class of drugs called aminoglycoside antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Dexamethasone belongs to a class of drugs called corticosteroids. It works by reducing swelling. This medicine only treats/prevents bacterial eye infections. It is not effective for other types of eye infections. Indications: – Prevention of postoperative infections; – Blepharitis; -Conjunctivitis; -Keratitis (without damage to the epithelium). Directions for use: – Strictly follow the doctor’s prescription. – In the conjunctival sac, 1-2 drops every 4-6 hours. -In the first 24-48 hours, the dose may be increased to 1-2 drops every 2 hours. Side effects: – Hypersensitivity and allergic reactions (itching, swelling of the eyelids, conjunctival hyperemia). -increased intraocular pressure; posterior subcapsular cataract, slowing down the wound healing process. – secondary infection. The development of a secondary infection is observed after the use of combined preparations containing corticosteroids in combination with antibiotics. Fungal infections on the cornea tend to occur especially frequently with long-term use of steroids. The appearance of non-healing ulcers on the cornea after prolonged treatment with steroid drugs may indicate the development of a fungal invasion.Secondary bacterial infection may occur as a result of suppression of the patient’s protective reaction. Contraindications -individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; – viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva (including keratitis caused by Herpes simplex, chickenpox); – mycobacterial eye infection; – fungal diseases of the eyes; – condition after removal of a foreign body of the cornea. Warnings and precautions: Before using Co-Avazir, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drug; other aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as gentamicin); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients (such as preservatives such as benzalkonium chloride) that may cause allergic reactions or other problems. Before using this medicine, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially about vision problems (e.g. glaucoma). After using this drug, your vision may become temporarily blurred and unstable. Do not drive, operate machinery, or engage in any activity that requires clear vision until you can do so safely. During pregnancy, this medicine should only be used if absolutely necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this medicine passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. Drug interactions can change the way your medicines work or increase your risk of serious side effects. In the case of use with other local ophthalmic preparations, the interval between their use should be at least 5 minutes. In case of the appointment of tobramycin locally simultaneously with systemic aminoglycoside antibiotics, you should monitor the overall picture of the blood. Do not start, stop taking, or change the dosage of any medication without your doctor’s approval. Keep out of reach of children.
