Composition:
Each 1 ml contains:
Benoxinate hydrochloride 4 mg
Inactive ingredients:
Sodium chloride, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, thimerosal, water for injection.
Properties:
Local anesthetic for use in ophthalmology. It causes a reversible blockade of the propagation and conduction of nerve impulses through the axons of nerve cells.
Indications:
Local anesthesia in ophthalmology (including superficial anesthesia of the cornea and conjunctiva) during tonometry, gonioscopy and other diagnostic examinations, before subconjunctival injections, when removing foreign bodies and sutures from the cornea and conjunctiva, during short-term surgical interventions on the cornea and conjunctiva.
Directions for use:
Locally, for instillation into the conjunctival sac, 1 drop is instilled into each eye.
Long-term anesthesia (up to 1 hour) provides 3-fold instillation with an interval of 4-5 minutes.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to benoxinate; children’s age up to 2 years.
With caution: patients with pseudocholinesterase deficiency, myasthenia gravis, patients with epilepsy.
Warnings and precautions:
The agent should be used only for instillations into the conjunctival sac. Do not use it for injection.
Prolonged, repeated and long-term use of benoxinate hydrochloride (as with other local anesthetics) may lead to permanent clouding of the cornea. Benoxinate hydrochloride is not intended for long-term therapy in complex eye disease.
During anesthesia it is necessary to protect the eye from irritating chemicals, foreign bodies and friction.
During the period of treatment it is necessary to exclude the intake of alcohol.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms:
During the period of treatment, patients should refrain from driving any vehicles and engaging in other activities that require a high concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
Side effects:
– Organs of vision: a burning sensation and hyperemia of the conjunctiva, a short-term tingling sensation; damage to the corneal layer of the epithelium, keratitis and excoriation of the corneal surface.
– Allergic reactions: anaphylactic shock.
– Central nervous system: grand mal seizure, fainting.
– Cardiovascular system: bradycardia.
