Trade Name: Alphanova plus Sterile Ophthalmic Solution 5 ml Composition: Each 1 ml contains: Brimonidine tartrate 2 mg Timolol maleate 6.8 mg (eq. to 5 mg Timolol) Benzalkonium chloride 0.05 mg(as preservative) Properties: Brimonidine is used to lower pressure in the eyes in patients who have glaucoma (high pressure in the eyes that may damage nerves and cause vision loss) and ocular hypertension (pressure in the eyes that is higher than normal but not high enough to cause vision loss). Timolol is a beta adrenoceptor antagonist that is applied topically as eye drops. It lowers IOP by blocking beta adrenoceptors in the ciliary body of the eye, which reduces the production rate of aqueous humor. Indications: –lowering IOP in open-angle glaucoma –ocular hypertension Directions for use: –Always use Alphanova Plus exactly as your doctor prescribed -Alphanova plus must not be used in infants below 2 years of age . Alphanova plus should not usually be used in children and adolescents ( from 2 to 17 years ) . -The usual dose for adults is one drop of Alphanova Plus , twice a day about 12 hours apart. –Do not change the dose or stop taking it without speaking to your doctor. –If you use Alphanova Plus together with other eye drops , leave at least 5 minutes between using Alphanova Plus and the other eye drops . Side effects: –Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include : swelling of the face , lips and throat , wheeziness , feeling faint , shortness of breath , itching or redness around the eye. –Drowsiness, fatigue, insomnia Contraindications: –hypersensitivity to brimonidine tartrate , timolol or any of the other ingredients of Alphanova Plus; –breathing illnesses such as asthma or a history of asthma , or severe chronic obstructive lung disease; –heart problems such as heart disorders (unless controlled by a pacemaker ) or heart weakness; –taking monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors or certain other antidepressant drugs; –in children less than 2 years old and should not usually be used in children aged 2 to 17 Warnings and precautions: Before applying Alphanova Plus tell your doctor if you have: congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, history of stroke or blood clot; high or low blood pressure, circulation problems (such as Raynaud’s syndrome); depression; diabetes (using brimonidine and timolol ophthalmic may make it harder for you to tell when you have low blood sugar); a thyroid disorder; any allergies; myasthenia gravis. Tell your doctor about all medicines you use, and those you start or stop using during your treatment with brimonidine and timolol ophthalmic, especially:digoxin, digitalis; reserpine;amitriptyline, bupropion, clomipramine, desipramine, doxepin, duloxetine, fluoxetine, imipramine, nortriptyline, paroxetine; isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine; atenolol, carvedilol, labetalol, metoprolol, nadolol, nebivolol, propranolol, sotalol, amlodipine, diltiazem, methyldopa, nifedipine, quinidine, verapamil. It is not known whether brimonidine and timolol ophthalmic solution may harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication. Timolol can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while using brimonidine and timolol ophthalmic. Do not touch the tip of the eye dropper or place it directly on your eye. A contaminated dropper can infect your eye, which could lead to serious vision problems. Tell your doctor right away if you have any eye injury or infection, or if you need to have any type of surgery, especially eye surgery. Keep out of reach of children.
