Symbicort is unique because the Formoterol component starts working within 1 to 3 minutes, much faster than the Salmeterol found in Seretide. This allows it to be used in two different ways depending on your doctor's plan. Primary Indications: Maintenance and relief of Asthma (in adults and adolescents 12+) and symptomatic treatment of COPD. The SMART/MART Approach: Your doctor may prescribe this as your only inhaler for both daily use (maintenance) and "as-needed" use (relief) for sudden symptoms. Usage: * Standard: 1–2 inhalations twice daily. Relief: 1 additional inhalation as needed for symptoms. Maximum: Usually not more than 6 inhalations at once or 12 inhalations per day. Important: Rinse your mouth with water after use to prevent oral thrush. Note: This is the original international brand by AstraZeneca.
