Mestinon is a "cholinesterase inhibitor." It is the gold standard for treating chronic muscle fatigue disorders where the communication between nerves and muscles is interrupted. Primary Indications: Myasthenia Gravis: To treat severe muscle weakness and fatigue, especially in the face, eyes, and limbs. Paralytic Ileus: Used to treat certain types of constipation or intestinal inactivity after surgery. Post-Operative Recovery: To reverse the effects of muscle relaxants used during general anesthesia. Secondary Indications: Urinary Retention: To help patients who are unable to pass urine after a surgical procedure. Nerve Gas Protection: Used by military personnel as a pretreatment against exposure to certain chemical agents (Soman). Usage: Dosage is highly personalized. Adults: Usually 1 to 3 tablets (60–180 mg) taken 2 to 4 times daily. Timing: If you have trouble swallowing or eating, take your dose 30–45 minutes before meals for maximum strength while chewing. Important: * Cholinergic Crisis: Taking too much can cause "extreme" muscle weakness; if your symptoms get worse after a dose, contact a doctor immediately. Stomach & Lungs: Use with caution if you have asthma, stomach ulcers, or a slow heart rate (bradycardia). Storage: These tablets are sensitive to moisture.
