Burnasores 0.25% – 30g Topical Ointment
Available at Pharmaegy Pharmacy. Use as directed by your doctor.
Intro: The 30g version of Burnasores is the larger economy size of this popular healing ointment. It contains Beta-sitosterol (0.25%), a naturally occurring phytosterol that promotes moist wound healing. It is the primary high-quality alternative to MEBO. By maintaining a physiological moist environment, it accelerates the migration of new skin cells to the wound site and provides a soothing, cooling effect on burnt tissue.
Indications:
Major Burns: Ideal for larger areas of first, second, or third-degree burns.
Chronic Wounds: Long-term treatment of bedsores (pressure ulcers) and diabetic foot ulcers.
Surgical Recovery: Healing of large surgical incisions, episiotomy wounds, and skin graft sites.
Skin Procedures: Post-laser resurfacing, deep chemical peels, and dermabrasion recovery.
Nipple Care: Treatment of cracked or sore nipples in breastfeeding mothers (wipe clean before feeding).
How to Use:
Dosage: Apply a layer (about 1mm thick) to the affected area 3 to 4 times daily.
Application: Keep the area exposed if possible. If you must use a dressing, apply a thicker layer of ointment and change the bandage 2 times a day.
Large Areas: For extensive burns, the 30g tube is more practical as it ensures you have enough medication for the full course of treatment.
Crucial Rules:
Base Ingredients: Contains sesame oil and beeswax; avoid if you have a known allergy to these components.
Appearance: The ointment has a brownish/yellowish color and a distinct sesame scent. It may stain light-colored clothing or bedding.
Infection Monitoring: While it helps heal, it is not a strong antibiotic. If the wound becomes redder, warmer, or starts draining yellow fluid (pus), see a doctor immediately.
Storage: Keep below 25°C. In the Egyptian summer, it is common for the ointment to become semi-liquid; a few minutes in the fridge will restore its consistency.
Generic International Brands: MEBO, Riaheal, Burn-Heal.
