Unitrin 10mg – 30 Oral Capsules
Available at Pharmaegy Pharmacy. Use as directed by your doctor.
Intro: Unitrin 10mg is the lower-dose version of Acitretin, a systemic retinoid produced by UniPharma. This dosage is often used as a "starting dose" to test patient tolerance or as a "maintenance dose" once the skin condition has improved. It works by slowing down the overproduction of skin cells and reducing the inflammation associated with chronic skin disorders.
Indications:
Moderate to Severe Psoriasis: Particularly when localized to specific areas or in the early stages of treatment.
Maintenance Therapy: Used to keep skin clear after a higher dose (like 25mg) has successfully cleared the lesions.
Pediatric Use: Sometimes used for children with severe genetic skin disorders (under strict specialist supervision).
Keratinization Disorders: Managing milder forms of Ichthyosis or Darier’s disease.
How to Use:
Dosage: Usually 1 to 3 capsules (10mg–30mg) once daily, as prescribed by your dermatologist.
Timing: Must be taken once daily with your main meal or with a glass of milk to ensure the medicine is absorbed properly.
Tip: Improvement is gradual; do not stop the medication if you don't see results in the first few weeks.
Crucial Rules (Extremely Important):
Pregnancy Warning: Strictly Forbidden. Acitretin causes severe birth defects. Female patients must avoid pregnancy for 3 years after stopping the medication. Two forms of contraception are mandatory.
Alcohol Restriction: Avoid alcohol during treatment and for 2 months after stopping, as it turns the drug into a form that stays in the body longer.
Blood Donation: Do not donate blood during treatment or for 3 years after the last dose.
Dryness: Even at 10mg, you will likely experience dry lips and dry eyes. Using a high-quality lip balm and moisturizing eye drops is recommended.
Monitoring: Regular blood tests for liver enzymes and blood lipids (cholesterol) are required.
Generic International Brands: Soriatane, Neotigason, Acitretin (10mg).
