Iruxol – 15g Enzymatic Debriding Ointment
Available at Pharmaegy Pharmacy. Use as directed by your doctor.
Intro: Iruxol is a specialized medical ointment produced by Abbott/Kahira Pharmaceuticals. It contains a unique combination of Collagenase (0.6 IU) and Chloramphenicol (10mg). Unlike standard burn creams, Iruxol is an "enzymatic debrider," meaning the collagenase enzyme actively dissolves and removes dead (necrotic) tissue from a wound without harming healthy skin, while the Chloramphenicol (an antibiotic) prevents infection.
Indications:
Difficult Wounds: Chronic ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, and bedsores (pressure sores).
Burn Recovery: Helps clean the wound bed after severe burns to promote faster healing.
Gangrene: Used in managing dry or moist gangrene to clear necrotic material.
Post-Surgery: Speeds up the healing of surgical wounds that are slow to close or have become infected.
Skin Grafting: Often used to prepare a wound bed before a skin transplant.
How to Use:
Dosage: Apply a layer (about 2mm thick) to the wound once daily.
Timing: For best results, the wound should be moist. If the wound is dry, moisten it with a sterile saline (saltwater) solution before applying the ointment.
Tip: Do not use other topical medicines (like antiseptics or other antibiotics) at the same time, as they can deactivate the healing enzymes in Iruxol.
Crucial Rules:
Specific Application: Only apply to the wound itself; avoid spreading excessively on healthy surrounding skin.
Avoid Irritants: Avoid using soaps or heavy metal-based cleaners (like iodine) on the wound before application, as they "kill" the enzyme's activity.
Side Effects: You might feel a mild burning or stinging sensation for a few minutes after application. This is normal, but if you develop a severe rash, stop use.
Pregnancy: Generally avoided in the first 3 months of pregnancy.
Generic International Brands: Santyl (USA), Skinatra (Local), Iruxol Mono (enzyme only, no antibiotic).
