Intro: Lamifen 125mg is the systemic (oral) form of Terbinafine, produced by European Egyptian Pharmaceutical Industries (EEPI). While the cream works on the surface, tablets are used for deeper or more widespread fungal infections that topical treatments cannot reach. It works by traveling through the bloodstream to the site of infection (like the scalp or under the nail bed) to kill the fungus from the inside out. Indications: Scalp Ringworm (Tinea Capitis): Primarily used for children or adults with fungal infections in the hair follicles. Fungal Nail Infections: For infections that are deep within the fingernails or toenails. Resistant Skin Infections: Used when creams (like Lamifen cream) have failed to clear body ringworm or athlete's foot. Widespread Tinea: When the infection covers too large an area to be treated with creams. How to Use: Dosage for Children (Weight-Based): * 10–20 kg: ½ tablet (62.5mg) once daily. 20–40 kg: 1 tablet (125mg) once daily. Above 40 kg: 2 tablets (250mg) once daily. Timing: Take once daily at the same time. It can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset. Duration: Scalp infections usually require 4 weeks, while nail infections can take 6 to 12 weeks. Crucial Rules: Liver Health: Oral terbinafine is processed by the liver. It is contraindicated for anyone with active or chronic liver disease. Your doctor may request a liver function test before starting. Taste/Smell Changes: A rare but known side effect is a temporary loss or change in the sense of taste or smell. If this happens, contact your doctor. Dark Urine/Yellow Eyes: If you notice very dark urine, pale stools, or yellowing of the skin/eyes, stop the medication immediately and see a doctor. Consistency: Do not skip doses.
