Terbin 1% – 15g Antifungal Cream
Available at Pharmaegy Pharmacy. Use as directed by your doctor.
Intro: Terbin is the primary competitor to Lamifen in the Egyptian market, produced by Global Napi Pharmaceuticals (GNP). It contains Terbinafine (1%). Like Lamifen, it is a "fungicidal" agent, meaning it kills the fungi responsible for skin infections rather than just slowing their growth. It is highly effective and often preferred for its reliable quality and affordable price.
Indications:
Tinea Infections: Treats athlete's foot, jock itch, and body ringworm.
Candidiasis: Fungal infections in skin folds (underarms, under breasts).
Pityriasis Versicolor: Clears discolored skin patches on the trunk and shoulders.
Skin Desquamation: Relieves the scaling and peeling caused by fungal overgrowth.
How to Use:
Dosage: Apply once or twice daily for 1 to 2 weeks depending on the severity.
Preparation: The skin must be cleaned and completely dried before application.
Application: Apply a thin layer to the affected area and the surrounding 1cm of healthy skin. Rub in gently.
Tip: If the infection is in a skin fold (like between toes or buttocks), you can cover the area with a sterile gauze strip after applying the cream, especially at night.
Crucial Rules:
Symptom Relief vs. Cure: Symptoms usually improve within a few days. However, you must continue the treatment for the full duration (usually 1 week) to prevent the fungus from returning.
Hygiene: Do not share towels or clothing with others during treatment to avoid spreading the infection.
Side Effects: Occasionally causes mild redness, itching, or a stinging sensation at the site of application.
Age Limit: Not recommended for children under 12 years old without a doctor's consultation.
Generic International Brands: Lamisil (Reference Brand), Lamifen (Local), Fungisafe (Local).
