Intro: Epimag is a widely used effervescent treatment produced by EIPICO. Its active ingredient is Magnesium Citrate (2.125g). It serves a dual purpose: it is a "litholytic" (stone-dissolving) agent that prevents and treats kidney stones, and it also acts as a mild osmotic laxative to treat occasional constipation. Indications: Oxalate Stones: Prevents the formation and recurrence of calcium oxalate crystals (the most common type of kidney stone). High Oxaluria: Reduces high levels of oxalates in the urine. Mild Laxative: Used for the short-term relief of occasional constipation. Magnesium Supplement: Provides a source of magnesium for those with mild deficiencies. How to Use: Dosage for Stones: Usually 1 sachet, 3 times daily. Dosage for Constipation: Usually 2 sachets dissolved in one go, taken at bedtime. Preparation: Dissolve the contents of the sachet in half a glass of water and drink while effervescing. The Water Rule: You must drink plenty of water throughout the day to help the magnesium flush the crystals out of your kidneys. Crucial Rules: Abdominal Pain: Do not use if you have severe abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting (signs of an obstruction). Kidney Impairment: Patients with significant kidney failure must consult a doctor before use, as magnesium can build up to toxic levels. Interactions: Do not take Epimag within 2 hours of taking antibiotics (like Tetracyclines or Ciprofloxacin), as it can stop them from working.
