Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) – 10ml Ear Drops
Available at Pharmaegy Pharmacy. Use as directed by your doctor.
Intro: Cipro Ear Drops are a potent antibiotic treatment produced by CID Pharmaceuticals. Its active ingredient is Ciprofloxacin (0.3%), a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone. Unlike multi-action drops like Otal (which include steroids and painkillers), Cipro is a "pure" antibiotic. It is highly effective at killing a wide variety of bacteria, especially Pseudomonas, which is a common cause of stubborn ear infections.
Indications:
Otitis Externa: Treatment of "swimmer’s ear" and other bacterial infections of the outer ear canal.
Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media: Used to treat long-term middle ear infections that involve ear drainage through a perforated eardrum.
Malignant Otitis Externa: A more serious infection of the ear canal (usually managed under a doctor's close supervision).
Pre/Post-Surgery: Often used to prevent infection during ear tube (tympanostomy) placement.
How to Use:
Dosage: Typically 3 to 4 drops in the affected ear, twice daily (every 12 hours).
Duration: Usually used for 7 days. Even if the pain stops, finish the full course to prevent the bacteria from becoming resistant.
Preparation: Warm the bottle in your hands for 1–2 minutes. Instilling cold drops can cause sudden dizziness or vertigo.
Application: Lie on your side with the affected ear up. After dropping, stay in that position for at least 60 seconds.
Crucial Rules:
Pure Antibiotic: It does not contain a painkiller. If your ear is very painful, your doctor might prescribe a separate pain reliever.
Tympanic Membrane: Unlike many other drops, Ciprofloxacin is generally considered safe to use even if the eardrum is perforated (if prescribed by a doctor for middle ear infections).
No Eyes: This specific "Otic" version is for the ear only. Do not use it in your eyes.
Contamination: Keep the dropper tip clean; do not touch it to your ear or skin.
Generic International Brands: Cetraxal, Ciloxan (Eye/Ear version).
