Dexatobrin – 5ml Ophthalmic Suspension
Intro: Dexatobrin is a powerful combination eye treatment produced by EIPICO. It is an "antibiotic-steroid" blend containing Tobramycin (0.3%) and Dexamethasone (0.1%). It is designed to tackle two problems at once: the antibiotic (Tobramycin) kills the bacteria, while the steroid (Dexamethasone) quickly reduces the redness, swelling, and itching.
Indications:
Bacterial Infections: Treats eye infections where significant swelling or inflammation is present.
Allergic Conjunctivitis: Relieves severe redness and itching from allergies when a risk of infection exists.
Post-Surgery: Frequently used after cataract or other eye surgeries to prevent infection and control inflammation.
Corneal Injuries: Used for non-viral injuries like chemical or thermal burns once the initial healing phase has begun.
How to Use:
Dosage: Usually 1 to 2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 4 to 6 hours. In severe cases, your doctor may start with drops every 2 hours for the first day.
Preparation: Shake the bottle well before use (it is a suspension, so the medicine settles at the bottom).
Application: Tilt your head back, pull down the lower lid, and apply the drop. Close your eye and press gently on the inner corner (near the nose) for 1 minute to keep the medicine in the eye.
Crucial Rules:
Viral/Fungal Warning: Do not use if you have a viral (like Herpes) or fungal eye infection. Steroids can make these infections much worse and may lead to permanent damage.
Cataracts/Glaucoma: Long-term use (more than 10 days) can increase eye pressure (glaucoma) or lead to cataracts. Use strictly as long as your doctor advises.
Contact Lenses: Do not wear contact lenses during treatment. The preservative in the drops can damage lenses, and the infection itself makes lens-wearing unsafe.
Blurred Vision: Like most eye drops, your vision may be blurry for a few minutes. Wait for it to clear before driving.
Generic International Brands: TobraDex (Original Reference), Co-Avazir, Optidex-T.
