Tobrin – 5ml Ophthalmic Solution
Available at Pharmaegy Pharmacy. Use as directed by your doctor.
Intro: Tobrin is a focused antibiotic eye treatment produced by EIPICO. Its active ingredient is Tobramycin (0.3%), a powerful aminoglycoside antibiotic. Unlike Dexatobrin, which contains a steroid, Tobrin is a "pure" antibiotic. It is highly effective at killing a broad range of bacteria that cause common eye infections, making it a safe and preferred choice when there is no severe swelling or when steroids should be avoided.
Indications:
Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Effectively treats "pink eye" and yellow/green discharge caused by bacteria.
Blepharitis: Inflammation and infection of the eyelids.
Keratitis: Infection of the cornea (the clear front part of the eye).
Newborn/Pediatric Use: Frequently prescribed for infants and children with bacterial eye discharge (clogged tear ducts with infection), as it is generally very well-tolerated.
How to Use:
Mild to Moderate Infection: Usually 1 to 2 drops every 4 hours.
Severe Infection: Up to 2 drops every hour until the condition improves, then the frequency is reduced.
Application: Wash your hands first. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid, and place the drop in the pocket. Close your eye for 1 minute and press the corner of your eye (near the nose) to prevent the medicine from draining away.
Crucial Rules:
Finish the Course: Do not stop using the drops as soon as the eye looks "white" or clear. Stopping too early can lead to the infection returning (antibiotic resistance).
No Steroids: Since this contains no steroid, it will not reduce redness as instantly as Dexatobrin, but it is safer for long-term use and for patients with viral or fungal suspicions.
28-Day Rule: Discard the bottle 28 days after opening, as the preservative loses its effectiveness and the liquid can become contaminated.
Contact Lenses: Avoid wearing lenses during the infection. Wait at least 15 minutes after application before reinserting lenses if your doctor allows them.
Generic International Brands: Tobrex (Original Reference), Tobrosid, Tobrastil.
