Dexatrol – 5ml Eye/Ear Drops
Available at Pharmaegy Pharmacy. Use as directed by your doctor.
Intro: Dexatrol is a powerful triple-action formula produced by EIPICO. It is a "3-in-1" combination containing a steroid (Dexamethasone) and two complementary antibiotics (Neomycin and Polymyxin B). This combination is highly effective because it covers a very wide range of bacteria while simultaneously stopping the body’s inflammatory response (redness and swelling).
Indications:
Eye Infections: Treats bacterial conjunctivitis and blepharitis where the eye is significantly red or swollen.
Ear Infections: Used for "Swimmer's Ear" (otitis externa) and chronic middle ear infections with discharge.
Injury/Surgery: Prevents infection and reduces scarring/inflammation after minor eye injuries or surgeries.
Allergy + Infection: Relieves severe itching and redness when there is a risk of a secondary bacterial infection.
How to Use:
For Eyes: Usually 1 to 2 drops into the affected eye(s) up to 4 to 6 times daily.
For Ears: Usually 3 to 4 drops into the ear canal 2 to 3 times daily.
Application: Shake the bottle well before use. For the ear, stay on your side for a few minutes; for the eye, press the inner corner gently for 1 minute.
Duration: Use exactly as prescribed. Do not stop early, but do not use for more than 7–10 days without a doctor's review.
Crucial Rules:
The "Clear Eardrum" Rule: Do not use in the ear if you suspect your eardrum is perforated (burst), as Neomycin can damage the inner ear if it leaks through.
Viral/Fungal Warning: Never use Dexatrol if the infection is viral (like a cold sore/herpes in the eye) or fungal. The steroid will mask the symptoms while the infection gets worse.
Eye Pressure: Long-term use can increase pressure inside the eye (Glaucoma) or lead to Cataracts.
Contact Lenses: Do not wear contacts while using these drops. Wait at least 15 minutes after the final drop if your doctor allows lens use.
Generic International Brands: Maxitrol (Original Reference), Neopolydex.
