Spasmo-Digestin – Multi-Action Digestive & Antispasmodic Tablets
Available at Pharmaegy Pharmacy. Use as directed by your doctor.
Intro: Spasmo-Digestin is one of the most popular gastrointestinal medications in Egypt, produced by Pharco Pharmaceuticals. It is a comprehensive formula that addresses two issues at once: indigestion and abdominal cramping. It combines Papain (100mg) and Sanzyme (30mg) for digestion, Dicyclomine Hydrochloride (5mg) to relax intestinal muscles, and Dehydrocholic Acid (10mg) to stimulate bile flow. Additionally, it contains Simethicone (30mg) to break down gas bubbles, making it a "complete toolkit" for digestive distress.
Indications:
Spastic Colon (IBS): Relieving the pain, bloating, and irregular bowel habits associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Indigestion with Cramps: For cases where a heavy meal causes both a slow stomach and painful spasms.
Flatulence & Bloating: Specifically helpful when trapped gas causes "stretching" pain in the abdomen.
Biliary Dyskinesia: Assisting in fat digestion by promoting the flow of bile from the gallbladder.
How to Use:
Dosage: Usually 1 to 2 tablets three times daily.
Timing: For best results, take it immediately before or during meals.
Administration: Swallow with a full glass of water.
Crucial Rules:
The "Dry Mouth" Effect: Dicyclomine is an anticholinergic; it may cause minor side effects like dry mouth, blurred vision, or slight dizziness.
Glaucoma & Prostate Caution: Due to the antispasmodic component, it should be used with caution (or avoided) in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma or enlarged prostate (BPH).
Bile Duct Obstruction: Do not use if you have a known blockage in the bile ducts or severe liver disease, due to the Dehydrocholic acid.
Sugar-Free: Generally suitable for diabetic patients, but always monitor your personal response.
Generic International Brands: No exact international equivalent exists with this specific 5-ingredient mix, but it is similar to Librax (for IBS) combined with Enzymes.
